This week we taught guard sweep for the beginners and continued on our trilogy of shin to shin, single X and X guard for the advanced students. I think they are great guards for nogi and after 3 weeks of drilling it, I can see that students are starting to grasp the concepts. For the next 2 weeks, Serge will be fishing at the batch and the advanced students will get to drill their favourite moves unless Igor wants to takes the beginners class and Stu can then teach deep half guard. Otherwise, the next 2 weeks for the beginners is top half guard and bottom half guard. The couple of new guys that tried out on the first and second week have not been back so I guess there is still vacancies if you want to train at our club. See you on the mats.

This week we taught guard submissions for fundamental and shin to shin guard for blue belts. Our intermediate guard system is focused on nogi guard due to the nogi national. We will focus on guard that requires more sleeve grips once the nogi season is over. Tuesday class is very popular compare to Thursday nogi class. I am still confused if people prefers training on Tuesday because it is GI or it is just that Tuesday is just a more suitable day to train compare to Thursday. It seems that we have 3 new students and soon we will be looking at putting a waiting list to ensure a good ratio of students/instructors but of course to ensure that the mats are not too crowded. Also, I am very glad that Edward is back training for us after 3 years. He was one of the original students from our first location in Onehunga. First week at training. Lot of people turned up on Tuesday and less on Thursday. Not sure if people prefer Tuesday because it is gi training compare to Thursday that is no gi training.
