Gracie University will still issue Gracie University "Technical Blue Belt" via online training

As we all know, you can send a video to Gracie University of you doing their techniques and they will grade you to blue belt.

The above promotion got the ire of the whole BJJ community.

The techniques are well explained but people critised the grading online (up to brown 4 stripes).

Even their Uncle Royce Gracie got disapointed with their marketing:

Royce then posted on the subject directly, again, via Instagram.
"With all due respect, our nephew's curriculums and online programs are not a true representation of the teaching method, belt grading, and philosophy that we learned from our father, Grandmaster Helio Gracie.

They have the right to modify our battle-tested jiu-jitsu system as they see fit, but we feel that it is our duty to ensure that our father's name is not misrepresented.

While videos, books and online resources may serve as supplements to jiu-jitsu practitioners, provenly, they can never, by any means, substitute live lessons in a qualified academy."

In an interview with Tatame, Rener offered a defense of the practice, saying it is an fact a superior alternative to learning BJJ in an actual academy.

"Some people do not understand that online study is even more effective than learning in the
traditional classroom," said Rener, via Google Translate.

The outcome:

Ryron and Rener also introduce a modification to the Gracie University belt promotion process.

Effective June 1, 2014, students who earn complete the Gracie Combatives program from home, and pass the Blue Belt Test via the Video Evaluation Process, will earn a Gracie University "Technical Blue Belt."

To earn the Official Gracie Academy Blue Belt, students must pass an extended hands-on evaluation with Ryron, Rener, or an authorized Gracie Academy representative at a Certified Training Center.

NO MORE OFFICIAL GRACIE ACADEMY BLUE BELT ONLINE, YOU HAVE TO ACTUALLY TURN UP AT A REAL SCHOOL.

I wonder if it is going to affect their sales!

Linjian Chan Graduation

Dear members of the Auckland BJJ community, Today, we gather to celebrate the remarkable achievements of one of our own, Linjian Chen, who has earned his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Linjian's journey has been unique and inspiring, starting in his 50s and culminating with this incredible achievement. As we honor Linjian's dedication, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to his training, I am reminded of a quote by Bruce Lee, who said, "Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do." Linjian embodies this spirit of action and determination, always pushing himself to be better and never giving up on his goals. Another great quote that comes to mind is by Ralph Waldo Emerson, who said, "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." Linjian's journey to this point has been long and challenging, but he has always shown that he has what it takes to succeed. His strength, d...
