Feedbacks from reading the NZ Grappler Sept 2014 newsletter

After reading the newsletter from the best and biggest grappling/competition organisers, I decided to write a few points for our club members.

For the competitors, your brackets will be online before the competition. That is awesome.

The weigh in will be done in the bull pen before your matches. No more weight early morning. Once again, we do not encourage anyone to make drastic weigh cut.

Wear shoes when going to the bathrooms or when you walk outside the mats!

Tap on the body and not on the mats. Verbal tap is better.

Coaches will no longer allowed next to the mats. Coaches are not allowed to corner their competitors.

Organisers will be using the IBJJF nogi uniforms. It will become compulsory by 2015.

"For Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi, athletes should abide by the following attire requirements:

Men:

Board shorts that are primarily black with up to 50% of the athlete’s belt rank color, with no pockets or with pockets entirely stitched shut, and reaching at least halfway down the thigh and at most to the knee. Attached metal or plastic
of any kind that may hurt the opponent is expressly forbidden on the board shorts. Pockets closed by velcro are not permitted.

Men are permitted the use of pants, shorts or trunks of elastic fabric (clings to body)completely black, so long as they are
worn under the regulation shorts.

Shirt of elastic fabric (clings to body) at a length that covers the shorts’ waist band, of black or white color, and displaying
at least 10% of the color of the rank (belt) to which the athlete belongs. Shirts that are 100% the color of the rank (belt)

the athlete belongs to are also acceptable.

NGZ asked that each club bring 2 referees.
Free training will be provided and higher belts will be paid. I think they should lower belts as well.
I will talk to Stu as I want to pay an extra $100 for anyone from our club that volunteers to ref.

It looks like there is only one Gi competition on their timetable. 2 nogi in Wellington for anyone wanting to take a trip.

Possibility for someone else to host more gi comp in Auckland in 2015! Anyone?

Linjian Chan Graduation

Dear members of the Auckland BJJ community, Today, we gather to celebrate the remarkable achievements of one of our own, Linjian Chen, who has earned his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Linjian's journey has been unique and inspiring, starting in his 50s and culminating with this incredible achievement. As we honor Linjian's dedication, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to his training, I am reminded of a quote by Bruce Lee, who said, "Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do." Linjian embodies this spirit of action and determination, always pushing himself to be better and never giving up on his goals. Another great quote that comes to mind is by Ralph Waldo Emerson, who said, "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." Linjian's journey to this point has been long and challenging, but he has always shown that he has what it takes to succeed. His strength, d...
