Signey won a bronze medal and also won the $100 dollars cash prize for the most submissions completed at the competition. The cash is donated by the club. Stu got silver. Tank got Gold. I was talking to a new student during the week about our training report and how I like to put some you tube videos on my weekly blog. This week, we covered the topic of the mount for fundamentals and rubber guard for advanced. Actually we have started the last cycle of our fundamentals which means we are mid way through the semester and we just have another 12 weeks of BJJ before Xmas break. Mount is one of the best position in BJJ as it is rewarded the most points which is 4 points The Back control position is equal in term of dominant position and which is also rewarded 4 points. We will cover the back position next week. We taught 1 escape from the mount position know as Upa escape or trap and roll. We also taught 1 guard re composition from mount. Several submissions were shown: cross choke, americana and arm bar. Please note that we still take new students at our Sandringham Club located at 681 Sandrigham Road, Sandringham. This week, we covered questions and answers for fundamental. The advanced students drilled their favorites techniques on Tuesday. On Thursday, Stu taught rubber guard which was the most favorite guard during our facebook questionnaire. For questions and answers, we covered the pro and cons of breaking the guard standing instead of breaking the closed guard on our knees. We also covered arm bar from closed guard and arm bar defense. On Thursday, we had a surprise graduation for our 2 new students (Patolo & Valentino). They train at De la Salle College where Jay is currently working and teaching Nogi BJJ. We are still taking new students for our Sandringham location at the moment.

We covered the topic of turtle for fundamentals and deep half guard for Advanced Topic. Turtle is not considered dominant position but it is plays a great part in BJJ. It gives you an option to avoid getting your guard pass. But also, under SBJJF rules and points system, it could be rewarded by 2 points for sweep and they recognise as a sweep (compare to the IBJJF) The Judo throw of the week was Osoto Gari. Next week we will be teaching questions and andswers Also, Auckland University Judo Club team competed at the North Island Judo Championship on the week end. Stu won his division at under 90 kilo (Master). Last Saturday, we organised a dinner at the Yakitori House restaurant located at 18b Shortland Street, Auckland, New Zealand. While the name of the restaurant is Yakitori which means grilled chicken, they do offer a wide variety of skewers like beefs, seafood and vegetable skewers options.
